Shearing Shed Solutions was originally contacted by Stuart White of Minto Pastoral Company in Mansfield, Victoria with the view to converting an existing storage shed into a shearing shed. After some preliminary designs and construction estimates were done it was decided that the most suitable option was to upgrade their existing shearing shed.
The existing shed had however become inadequate for their increased shearing needs and was also in rather poor condition, so after looking at various modification options, it was decided to construct a new shearing module adjoining the existing shed. This allowed the original shed to be reconfigured as a holding area, with a series of new internal gates supplied for that purpose.
The height of the shed and bay spacings needed careful consideration as they had to match the existing floor heights and roof lines.
The design settled on was a 6 stand Across the Board layout with Back Fill catch pens and insets to the sheeted pen walls for storage of oddments.
The shearers access to the catch pens is via dual leaf, double action doors while rear swing-slide gates ensure that the pens are easily filled.
To ensure adequate light and ventilation five clear sheeted hopper windows and two doors were installed on the shearing wall and around the wool floor area. Six external let-out chutes with ply cover panels were fitted into the shearing wall and six large count-out pens were constructed.
