To fitout the new extension to their existing farm shed, Warren and Josie Matthews of "Kidgebilly Pastoral" contacted Shearing Shed Solutions to discuss ideas for their new internal layout. The external access points were already in place and the location and flow of the future yards already determined, so the layout of the internal pens needed to take these aspects into account.
Detailed measurements of the shed were sent to SSS and from these a two stand layout was designed. Due to the ample width of the shed, it was decided that a layout incorporating Front Fill Catch Pens and large rear Holding Pens would be the best option.
To take advantage of the height of the shed, a raised board design was chosen. This provided clear headroom underneath the Pen Area while allowing the floor of the existing shed to become the new wool floor.
The shed itself had already been constructed with ample windows to the sides and rear of the building so ventilation across the shearing board was not an issue that needed to be addressed.
To ensure the most efficient movement of sheep to the catch pens, five swing-slide gates were installed throughout the shed.
